Moon Shot

So I found out about the lunar eclipse at the sundown the day it was going to happen, I quickly called Tom Phillips to talk him into a safari of the San Diego county bad lands (his backyard). We loaded up in the Jeep at midnight and headed to the lookout tower atop one of the local mountains.

Somewhere in my haste to plan I incorrectly calculated the time it was to happen, we kicked around for an hour or so shooting really long exposures of the valley and tower as well as some infrared images (noting like photographing infrared in the dark... do the math to figure out an exposure on that one). Anyway we had given up and driven back, I was on my way home when I noticed out of the sun roof that it had started. I pulled over and setup the tripod, being my first attempt (and with small lenses) I am happy with the results. Maybe next time I will get one of those giant lenses and look for Neil's footprints.
